Celebrate World Turtle Day by helping us to name our new turtles!

World Turtle Day is celebrated every year on 23 May and is a global reminder of the important role turtles play in healthy ecosystems. In the River Murray, turtles help keep waterways clean by scavenging and contribute to biodiversity. But they are under threat from habitat loss, road traffic accidents and introduced predators. This time of year is a great opportunity to learn more and take action to protect these unique animals.

Three new members have joined our Education team: a Murray short‑necked turtle, a broad‑shelled turtle and an eastern long‑necked turtle. We need your help to name our newest team members!

The turtles are on board to help the team educate about River Murray turtles as part of classroom sessions and events. Naming the turtles will help us build a stronger connection with students and community.

🐢Add your name suggestions in the comments below and vote for your favourite names!

You have until the end of May to submit name suggestions and cast your votes. We will announce the new team member names on World Environment Day (5 June).
